大学4年生の卒業制作は「漢字の成り立ち」をテーマとした研究・制作を行いました。
漢字は、象形文字として絵から出発しました。しかし、ただの絵と漢字は違います。漢字は、ことば・単語となる、モノゴトの意味や本質をあらわす絵を文字にしたのです。象形文字は、そのモノゴトの特徴を実に端的に、簡潔に、しかも正確に表現しています。例えば「郷」という漢字は、中心がごちそうを表し、その周りを人々が向かい合って食べる形を表しています。

The graduation work of the fourth grader of the university researched and produced the theme of "the origin of kanji". Kanji started out of the picture as hieroglyphs. However, the picture and kanji are different. Kanji characters are pictures that represent the meaning and characteristics of things that become words and words. Hieroglyphs express the character of the thing very simply, concisely and accurately.For example, in the kanji “郷”, the center represents feast, It represents a form in which people face each other around meals and eat.

もし漢字の成り立ちを、元の漢字を崩すことなくビジュアル化することが出来たら、それは本来の「情報」を伝える文字としての役割だけではなく、モノゴトの意味や本質を伝えるピクトグラムになるのではないか。そしてそれは既存のピクトグラムと同じように、誰にでも共通して認識出来る存在になるのではないかと考えました。

If we could visualize the structure of kanji without breaking the original kanji, it would be a pictogram that not only conveys "information" but also conveys the meaning and essence of Monogoto. And, as with existing pictograms, I thought that it would be something that everyone could recognize in common, and created a work that visualized the structure of kanji.

ビジュアル化された文字は、パーツごとに意味があるため分解することが可能です。またそれぞれのパーツを組み合わせることで、新しい漢字をピクトグラムを作るように生み出すことも出来ます。

Characters whose composition is visualized can be disassembled because each part has meaning. Also, new kanji can be created like pictograms as described above.

展示では、分割されたパーツを紙とアクリルに印刷し、バラバラに配置しました。パーツ同士をよく観察しパズルのように組み合わせることで、絵から文字となった漢字の本質的な面白さに触れることが可能です。

In the exhibition, the divided parts are printed on paper and acrylic and arranged in pieces. By carefully observing the parts and combining them like a puzzle, you can experience the original fun of Kanji.
